kapaa hawaiiLocated on the island of Kauai, Kapa’a is known for its beauty and was recently named one of America’s Prettiest Towns according to Forbes magazine, something locals and lucky tourists have known for centuries. The town exudes a relaxed, family atmosphere, with ukelele makers and fish taco trucks a nod to the island’s Polynesian past. No other towns in Hawai’i were named to the Forbes list, which included Edgartown, Massachusetts; Leavenworth, Washington; Holland, Michigan; and Breckinridge, Colorado. Kapa’a is the only town on the list with 75-degree year-round temperatures!

Kapa’a means “solid” in Hawai’ian, and visitors will have a good time enjoying the water, mountains, and friendliness of this small town at the base of Nounou Mountain. Nounou is the Sleeping Giant and a hike on the Sleeping Giant Trail provides beautiful scenery and the short, steep hike is sure to get your blood pumping. Lydgate State Park is a great beach for families and beginner snorkelers, with calm, clear water and plenty of fish.

Other things to do in and around Kapa’a include water sports like kayaking and water skiing, as well as shopping at the small keepsake shops around town. Kinipopo Shopping Village, Wailua Shopping Plaza, and Coconut Marketplace offer shoppers a complete assortment of authentic Hawai’ian products.
